¿Qué es la lobuloplastia?
A surgical procedure to reconstruct or restore the earlobe in order to correct a tearing problem, or to give it a more youthful and harmonious appearance. Torn, fissured, or enlarged earlobes due to piercings can be corrected. If the earlobe is excessively large, it can be reduced, giving it a rejuvenated shape.
What does the surgery involve?
There are many techniques used to perform lobuloplasty, ranging from the simplest (closing and suturing) to more complex methods (Z-plasties and flaps). It depends on the size of the defect, the location, and the size and thickness of the earlobe. The procedure is simple and quick; it is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.
What is the recovery like?
The wound will be covered with Micropore surgical tape by 3M (skin color) at the end of the procedure. It can get wet in the shower, but do not submerge it in pools. Let it dry naturally in the air. You do not need to remove the tape unless you experience discomfort such as an allergic reaction to the tape (itching, redness) or signs of infection (pain, redness, warmth). If the tapes are removed for any of the reasons above, we will leave the earlobes uncovered to keep them dry.
Frequently asked questions
Will the scar be visible?
Normally, the scar will be barely visible, and when the new piercing hole is made, the earring itself will hide part of the scar.
How long do I have to wait before getting new piercing holes?
The new earring hole must wait until two months have passed, to give the wound enough time to heal properly. From that point, you can start wearing earrings again.
My earlobe is large—can it be reduced?
Earlobes become more prominent over the years and are considered a sign of aging.
It can be reduced with local anesthesia through a small procedure. In the vast majority of cases, it will be necessary to redo the piercing holes for earrings.
