What does a facial lipofilling involve?
Loss of volume is a key factor in facial aging, and lipofilling techniques have made it possible to achieve a degree of rejuvenation without losing naturalness. We obtain the fat from other areas where it is present in excess (abdomen, neck, pubic area, …).
Who are the best candidates for this surgery?
The ideal candidates for undergoing facial lipofilling are women or men who do not smoke, whose face and neck begin to “deflate,” but whose skin still retains some elasticity. A lipofilling can make you look younger and increase your self-confidence, but it will not give you a completely different appearance, nor can it restore your health or vitality.
How is lipofilling performed?
First, the treatment area is marked. We perform liposuction of a predetermined area, storing the fat in a special sterile container. That fat is washed to remove non-viable remains and then treated with local anesthesia. Once the fat is ready for lipotransfer, it is transferred into 1, 3, or 5 ml syringes. Using 1 mm incisions, we perform the lipofilling in the areas that need it.
We can remodel the facial fat, meaning we can remove fat from some areas and introduce it into others using this technique.
Aftercare
The complication rate is very low and the satisfaction rate is very high. After lipofilling, discomfort is usually minimal. For a few days after surgery, you should keep your head elevated to help reduce swelling. Don’t be surprised by the swollen and bruised appearance in the first few days—remember that within a few weeks your look will be normal.
Frequently asked questions
Will there be visible scars?
There are no visible scars after lipofilling because the incisions are very small.
How long will my recovery take?
Most patients who undergo a facelift do very well. Discomfort is mostly related to swelling over 1–2 weeks. During the first week, you should wear a compression band if it is combined with neck liposuction.
Should I take any special care after the surgery?
Avoid strenuous activities for 2 weeks and avoid sleeping face down for 1 month.
What type of anesthesia is used?
Facial lipofilling is usually performed using local anesthesia with nerve blocks when it is done as a standalone treatment. If needed, it can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, although that increases the costs.
