Transform your figure and enhance the beauty of your chest with breast augmentation mammaplasty at Clínica de San Pío. We are a reference in cosmetic surgery, and our track record and commitment to excellence have made us the ideal choice for many women.
What does breast augmentation involve?
Breast augmentation, also known as breast augmentation mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at improving breast shape and size.
During the procedure, performed under general anesthesia, breast implants are placed through a small incision, usually made in the submammary fold or the areola.
Our team of highly qualified surgeons uses advanced and safe techniques, working with top-quality materials to ensure each patient is satisfied.
During the first consultation, several factors will be assessed, such as your current breast size and shape, the firmness of the skin, and your overall health. This is the ideal time to discuss your expectations and receive guidance on the best options to help you reach your goals.
At the Clínica de San Pío, we specialize in offering this service to the highest quality standards, guaranteeing natural and long-lasting results. We focus on making your wishes come true by offering personalized breast augmentation procedures, with results that highlight your natural beauty.
Before and after
Why choose a breast lift (mammaplasty)?
Breast augmentation, beyond being a purely aesthetic decision, can be the solution to a variety of individual situations and needs. It is indicated for:
Enhancing a small or underdeveloped breast
For women who feel their bust has not developed enough or who want more volume.
Correcting asymmetry
It’s not uncommon for one breast to be slightly different from the other; surgery can help balance this difference.
Restoring lost volume
After events such as pregnancy or significant weight loss, the breasts may lose their original shape and volume.
Correcting congenital changes
Issues such as tuberous breasts or other congenital conditions can be treated with this surgery.
In addition, if the areola–nipple complex is positioned lower than expected, it may be necessary to opt for an augmentation mastopexy, which combines lifting and breast augmentation.0
This intervention not only improves breast size and shape, but can also help address self-esteem and confidence concerns.
Breast Implants
The world of breast implants offers many possibilities. These implants come from research and technology, and they are essential for anyone seeking an aesthetic change that respects the natural look and harmony of their body.
Types of breast implants
It’s important to consider that choosing the right breast implants is crucial to achieving the desired result. There are different types of implants:
Round implants
Ideal for those who want a more pronounced cleavage.
Anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants
Known for their “water-drop” shape, they offer a more natural result.
Ergonomic implants
They adapt to the patient’s position, providing an even more natural appearance.
It’s essential that, together with the surgeon, you choose the implant type that best matches your expectations and body anatomy. Specialized clinics, such as Clínica de San Pío, work with high-quality implants that meet all safety standards.
Recovery after breast augmentation surgery
Recovery varies from patient to patient. It’s normal to feel discomfort during the first few days, but over time and by following the surgeon’s instructions, you will be able to return to your normal activities. It is essential to attend regular follow-up visits to ensure everything is progressing as expected.
After surgery, you must follow a careful recovery process to guarantee optimal results. During the first weeks, it’s normal to experience some degree of pain and swelling, as well as the appearance of bruising.
At Clínica de San Pío, we support each patient throughout her recovery journey, offering personalized follow-up and specific recommendations to make this process easier. It’s important to avoid intense physical exertion and follow medical guidelines exactly.
The final result will be seen gradually, reaching its definitive look between 6 and 12 months after surgery. During this time, it’s essential to be patient and maintain clear communication with our medical team.

More details about breast augmentation surgery at Clínica de San Pío
Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis at the Hospital Mediterráneo, which means it does not require hospitalization. The average stay in the recovery room is approximately 90 minutes.
A small incision of less than 5 cm is made, usually in the submammary fold. This approach is preferred because the scar is almost imperceptible, allows optimal implant placement, does not damage the breast gland, and generally does not affect nipple sensitivity.
No drains are used, except in exceptional cases. A 3M Micropore dressing is placed and kept for three weeks until the stitches are removed.

Other breast surgeries
Mastopexy is a surgery that lifts and improves the shape of sagging breasts, normally when the areola and nipple are below the breast fold. It can also be combined with breast augmentation.
Breast reduction is surgery to reduce breast size by removing fat, tissue, and skin, resulting in smaller, firmer breasts. It can also reduce the size of the areola.
Breast asymmetry is the difference between breasts in volume, shape, amount, or tissue elasticity. It can be due to congenital alterations, position in the ribcage, breastfeeding, oncological processes, or complex asymmetries.
Risks or complications
Capsular contracture
This happens when the natural covering created around the implant (capsule) contracts excessively, tightening the implant and making the breast feel harder. 1–4% for textured cohesive prostheses placed under the muscle. It can be treated in several ways, sometimes requiring removal of the capsule (total capsulectomy) and replacement of the implant. Risk can be reduced by avoiding the peri-areolar approach and postoperative drains, when this is possible.
Bleeding / hematoma
Infrequent and highly related to exertion. Only in specific cases does it require a new procedure to remove the accumulated blood (less than 0.5%).
Infection
Very rare thanks to surgical technique (avoiding the peri-areolar approach), plastic film that protects the nipple, antibiotics (pre-, intra-, and postoperative), and above all by avoiding the use of drains. (less than 0.1%).
Changes in sensitivity
Some women notice the nipples are more or less sensitive, and even lack sensation entirely. These changes are usually temporary (less than 12 months), although in a few cases they may be permanent. It is directly proportional to the implant width/size used.
Rupture of the implant capsule
This is uncommon before 10 years with today’s cohesive implants. If rupture occurs, the implants must be replaced.
Clearing doubts: everything you need to know about breast augmentation
We know that deciding to undergo breast augmentation surgery can come with many questions and concerns. From the surgical process to the expected results, it’s only natural to want to be fully informed in detail. That’s why we’ve compiled and answered the most frequently asked questions our patients send us.
What alternatives are there to breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation can be done with breast implants or through lipotransfer. For augmentation with lipotransfer, it’s necessary to have enough fat in other parts of the body. In the same surgical procedure, liposuction is performed to extract the fat and then the fat is transferred (lipotransfer). Approximately 1000 cc of fat is required. This method has limitations, such as only allowing an increase of one size per procedure and providing less projection to the breast than an implant.
What is the postoperative period like?
No dressings/ongoing care are required, since the incision is protected with a 3M Micropore dressing until the stitches are removed. It’s normal to feel somewhat tired a few days after surgery, but you can return to almost normal life after leaving the recovery room. It’s important not to lift heavy weight during the first two weeks and to do the recommended movements to avoid contractures.
What risks and complications exist?
Although breast augmentation surgery is safe when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, there may be possible complications and associated risks, such as capsular contracture, bleeding/hematoma, infection, changes in sensitivity, and rupture of the implant capsule.
Does breast augmentation hurt?
Mammaplasty is performed under general and local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. The immediate postoperative period isn’t painful thanks to the local anesthesia. It’s important to follow Dr. Jaime de San Pío’s instructions for pain-free recovery.
When can I get back to my everyday life?
After breast augmentation, you can return to work in just a few days, depending on the activity you do. It’s important to avoid excessive physical contact during the first few weeks and not to lift heavy weights.
When can I resume my sports activities?
You can start running after approximately 3 weeks, but it is recommended to delay activities that involve the upper body for one and a half months
Is any type of massage recommended after chest surgery?
At Clínica de San Pío, we provide a specific recovery program that includes stretching. We do not recommend massaging the chest, but we do recommend massaging the shoulders, back, and neck.
Is the aesthetic result immediate?
The final result is seen between 6 months and 1 year after surgery. During that time, the breasts will change until a natural-looking result is achieved.
Will the scars be visible? Where are they placed?
The procedure is carried out through a small incision in the submammary fold, and the resulting scar is almost imperceptible.
Will I be able to breastfeed if I get pregnant?
Yes, women with implants can breastfeed without problems, as implants do not affect the breast gland.
Can I add fat through lipotransfer at the same time as getting implant breast augmentation?
Yes, it’s known as “supercharged breast augmentation,” useful for improving cleavage, correcting scars, volume defects, or congenital alterations.
When can we see the results?
The initial result can be seen after 6–12 weeks, but the final result is visible between 9 and 12 months.
