Surgical procedure aimed at removing excess skin and fat from the lower part of the abdomen while respecting the navel. It can be combined with liposuction or other procedures.

If we perform it as an isolated procedure, we usually do it on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia in the operating room at the Clínica de San Pío. If you also want to combine it with other treatments, it can be performed at the Hospital Mediterráneo under epidural or general anesthesia.

The ideal candidates for mini abdominoplasty are women or men who have a relatively good body shape but are concerned about the accumulation of fat or excess skin in the lower abdominal area and who do not improve despite diet or physical exercise.

This surgery is especially helpful for women who have had several pregnancies, as long as they do not require correction of rectus diastasis.

During the first few days, the abdomen is usually somewhat swollen, and you may notice some discomfort or pain, which is controlled with medication. Occasionally, we leave a drainage device in the form of a plastic strip (without suction), which is removed in a couple of days. It is used to prevent seromas.

Frequently asked questions

You may shower 2 days after surgery and you will need to wear a postoperative compression garment. You should start walking as soon as possible and avoid staying hunched over. The stitches are removed at 3 weeks, and the drain in 1–2 days (if used).

The scar is covered by clothing or a bikini. It looks a bit like the scar left by a C-section, although it is slightly longer and lower. After surgery, you will keep a strip of skin-colored paper tape (Micropore 3M) for 6 months, changing it every 3 weeks, and allowing two days of rest with each application. The goal is for the scar to heal as thin as possible.

It is very important to avoid sun exposure, especially during the first year, to prevent the scar from darkening—i.e., to avoid post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

It depends on the patient’s preferences. It can be performed with local anesthesia at the Clínica de San Pío on an outpatient basis. If we combine mini abdominoplasty with other procedures, we prefer to perform the procedure under general anesthesia or epidural anesthesia at the Hospital Mediterráneo.
