What is PRP?
PRP is an autologous biological material, meaning it is obtained from the patient’s own blood. A sample is taken through a venipuncture, and it is then centrifuged to separate the different components (white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, and plasma).
One portion of the centrifuged material contains platelet-rich plasma, which is made up of the cells involved in blood clotting. These contain a large number of substances called “growth factors” that promote cell migration and division.
PRP offers major advantages and many uses. Its current indications include the treatment of alopecia and skin aging.
What does PRP treatment involve?
PRP is obtained in a similar way to a routine blood test. It is an outpatient treatment. The patient’s blood is collected and then introduced into a centrifuge that separates the different parts of the blood, producing PRP. Next, using an injection gun, the product is injected into the area we want to treat.
We have Duografter II by Proteal. It is a closed, contact-free PRP extraction and preparation system. To eliminate the risk of contamination.
What indications do we have for using PRP?
- Skin aging
- Wrinkles, scars, and fibrosis
- After abrasion (laser, chemical peel, mechanical)
- Burns and acute wounds
- New, fine hair. More thickness
- Chronic lesions (ulcers and fistulas)
What results are obtained?
If the area to be treated is the scalp, new hair growth is encouraged and the thickness of existing hair can increase. This means we would see an increase in hair density.
If the area to be treated is the skin of the face or décolleté, it helps increase elasticity, reduce sagging, improve radiance, and reduce wrinkles.
How can PRP help with healing?
PRP has 3 to 5 times more platelets than those found in a wound, which means a greater release of growth factors and cellular stimulation for regeneration. It can be used on its own or, more commonly, combined with laser treatment.
Scalp biostimulation
The PRP growth/scalp biostimulation treatment consists of microinjections of Plasma Rich in Growth Factors throughout the scalp, especially in areas with lower hair density.
Frequently asked questions
How many sessions are needed, and when will results be visible?
It depends on the indication. For hair and rejuvenation, more sessions are given at the beginning, and then we switch to maintenance. For scars, the usual recommendation is 2 to 3 sessions. Although this is an individual assessment, the average is 3 to 4 sessions per year, with a minimum interval of 4 to 6 weeks.
In general, results for facial treatment are usually noticeable starting from 20 to 30 days after the session, and for scalp treatment, from the 2nd session onward.
Is it a painful treatment?
Thanks to the application of anesthetic cream and the injection with a mesotherapy gun, the treatment is not painful.
Who is this treatment for?
Because it is a treatment with different uses, it is aimed mainly at people who want to prevent hair loss, increase density, or reduce skin aging. It can also be used to improve scars and ulcer areas.
