IPL ELLIPSE Treatment

Intense Pulsed Light or IPL “Intense Pulsed Light” is a leading non-invasive photo-rejuvenation treatment. It is typically performed on the face, hands, and décolleté.

IPL has multiple applications. Depending on the filter we use, it can be used for hair removal, removing superficial redness, treating acne, or eliminating spots.

At the Clínica de San Pío, we use it mainly for spot treatment. We have a high-quality Ellipse medical-grade IPL.

Spot removal is achieved by applying a spectrum of filtered light so it targets the spots. The spots absorb the energy provided by the light and darken. After 2–3 weeks, they progressively begin to fade. Since no wound is made in the skin, it is possible to use makeup from the very first moment to conceal the spots until they eventually peel off. The treatment usually requires 2 to 4 sessions, with an interval of 3–4 weeks.

Thanks to IPL treatment, it is now possible to combat the signs of aging naturally, correcting fine wrinkles, spots, freckles, and superficial redness.

In addition to that, it softens wrinkles, restores skin radiance, and improves skin texture, elasticity, and quality. Results are natural and start to become visible at 3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. It is a medical-quality IPL with a water filter and very advanced technology currently. It is important to regulate the intensity correctly to achieve a great result with the fewest sessions while avoiding complications that can occur if we deliver too much energy.

It depends on the energy administered. It’s usually a good idea to go slowly in the first session, since the more spots you have, the more energy is captured. You’ll only feel a mild warming sensation in the treated area, which will disappear once the session ends.

We also have a Zeiss machine, which provides a jet of cold air to make the treatment more comfortable.

It depends on your phototype and the type, degree, and number of lesions. Spots often reappear or new ones may appear over time and with sun exposure. The first time you undergo spot treatment, more sessions are usually required. Once the skin is cleared, we move on to maintenance, typically in winter after the summer in which spots usually appear. In many cases, maintenance may be done with just one session.

IPL rejuvenation treatment can be done in the three areas: face, décolleté, and hands—or just in one area. You can even treat a single spot, and not necessarily your entire face.

It all depends on how you care for your skin (use of sun protection factors, hydration, etc.). Results also vary based on the skin quality of each patient, their lifestyle, and their frequent habits. Spots need to be maintained, and in many cases a refresher is done annually or every 2 years.

Depending on the energy used, normally the next day. You’ll be able to resume your usual activities immediately after the treatment. Even if you want to, you can use makeup without any problem to apply it to your face.

It’s recommended to avoid sun exposure of the treated area in the days after the treatment and to use mineral protection factor. However, after a few days you’ll be able to take sun again.

You’ll be able to correct, above all, spots and superficial vascular lesions on the face, hands, and décolleté without the need for surgery, chemical peels, or dermabrasion.
